Sherpa guide climbs Mt. Everest for record 22nd time

May 16, 2018-With the 2018 Everest climbing season officially beginning from Sunday, at least 94 climbers stood atop the world highest peak Mount Everest on Wednesday.

Nepali climber Lhakpa Sherpa has just broken her own record for successful summits of Mount Everest by a woman by reaching the peak of the world's tallest mountain for a ninth time.

Kami made his first scaled Everest in 1994 when he was 24 years old.

Lakpa Sherpa, 44, the world's most successful female Everest climber, also made her ninth climb to the top of the mountain on Wednesday - breaking her own record set past year.

Mr Kami Rita Sherpa, a professional guide, and Ms Lhakpa Sherpa, who works in a supermarket in CT, reached the summit from opposite sides of the 8,848m mountain.

Past year seven people lost their lives on the world's highest peak, while 449 summited from the Nepal side and at least another 120 made it to the top from the north side in Tibet.

Both of the other previous record holders are retired from climbing.

Sherpa is a single mom to three kids and lives in Hartford, Connecticut where she works as a dishwasher at the local Whole Foods. She was making her way down to the advanced base camp, he said.

Hundreds of climbers are on Everest attempting to reach the summit during the narrow window of good weather in May.

He completed the seven climbs in 177 days - nine days quicker than the previous record - after reaching the top of Everest on Monday (May 14).
