Rapper TI arrested for public drunkenness and assault


United States rapper TI has been arrested on disorderly conduct and public drunkenness charges as he tried to enter his gated community outside Atlanta.

Police tell Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV that T.I., born Clifford Harris Jr.

The security guard positioned at the front gate would not let him past his checkpoint. This led to an argument, during which T.I. reportedly asked, "Don't you know who I am?" before calling his friend to back him up.

The arrest occurred when the rapper attempted to gain entry into his housing community. Although there was no physical contact, T.I. was arrested on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.

T.I.'s attorney also released a statement to the local news network.

According to The Blast, T.I. says the incident started because the security guard of his gated area fell asleep in the guard shack. The friend, who had a warrant out for his arrest from Clayton County, was arrested on that warrant. He was taken downtown, where he spent about an hour and a half behind bars before posting a $2,250 bond, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He says the rapper identified himself and sought entry, but the guard refused. Words were exchanged and apparently the guard and/or supervisor called the police.

T.I.is one of the biggest names in hip-hop, with multiple platinum-selling albums and singles, production credits and roles in films like "ATL" and "American Gangster". "When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip".
