Surgeon general helps fellow passenger who passed out on flight


The Surgeon General tweeted about his experience, saying "They asked if there was a Doctor on board to help with a medical emergency", he wrote.

It was an awesome case of being in the right place at the right time, when the U.S. Surgeon General responded to calls for help aboard a Delta flight Wednesday evening.

Adams tweeted that a call went out requesting a doctor.

Adams says the patient doing well and, like a good public health service doctor, he was happy to assist. Adams telephoned the passenger's spouse to explain the situation and helped escort the individual off the plane to medical personnel waiting at the gate.

"Hello, Wow! We certainly thank you for volunteering as well as your service".

According to the Clarion Ledger, Adams was flying to Jackson to visit the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Thursday to discuss the opioid epidemic and what steps the administration and federal government are taking to address it, according to UMMC officials.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant tweeted back at the surgeon general: "Nice job, Dr. Adams!"
