University of Hawaii athletic teams honored for academic performance

The Razorbacks' women's golf, gymnastics and women's tennis teams were honored for their standing among the top 10 percent of academic performing teams in the country in their respective sports in the multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 2016-17 academic year.

April is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. IN fact, the team has achieved a ideal April score the past four reports, starting with the 2013-14 season.

Teams that fail to reach a four-year average April score of 930, which is the equivalent of a 50 percent graduation rate, or a 940 average for the most recent two years, can be penalized.

The NCAA is announcing multiyear April scores for all Division I teams, including those earning public recognition awards, on May 23. "Our Student-Athlete Success Program continues its outstanding work with all 24 of our sports and I want to thank them for their tireless dedication to our student-athletes".

The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team received April recognition, while Niagara's men's and women's cross country, men's tennis and women's volleyball were also honored by the NCAA.

Most notable among Georgia Tech's latest recipients, head coach Bruce Heppler's golf program earned its 13th-straight Public Recognition Award, continuing its streak of earning the honor every year since the inception of the April program in 2006.

As recently as 2015, the Rutgers football ranked No. 12 nationally in multi-year April but failed to land in the top 10 percent for the third straight year.
