Women MIssing From 'Forbes' Highest-Paid Athletes List

U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather topped the Forbes rankings of the world's top 100 earning athletes after earning US$275m ($361m) for his match in August against UFC star Conor McGregor, who claimed fourth position on the rankings (Lionel Hahn/PA Wire).

The annual roundup of highest paid sportspeople has included at least one woman, and as many as three, since it was extended from 50 athletes to 100 in 2010, according to Forbes.

The starting income for the 2018 list was a record $22.9m, up $1.5m from the previous year, largely due to soaring salaries in the National Basketball Association.

"Females who were on the list in the past were there because of endorsements".

Boxer Floyd Mayweather topped the list, taking home an insane $285 million past year, while soccer players Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo came in at second and third places, earning $111 million and $108 million, respectively.

The pact finally broke down in 2002 when the U.S. accused the North of running a secret uranium enrichment programme. It has since been reconfirmed and with days ago the USA president has returned to his fire-and-fury rhetoric.

Surprisingly, the "World's Highest-Paid Athletes 2018" compilation is an all-male affair with no women being featured in the list.

Mayweather made a staggering $275 million (£205m) alone from his fight with McGregor, who is fourth on the list after accruing $99 million.

"Boxing's biggest night of 2017 helped Mayweather and McGregor earn almost $400 million combined", Kurt Badenhausen, senior editor, Forbes Media said in a statement on Tuesday. He is earning through salary and winnings was $4m while brand endorsements earned him $20m.

The Forbes list factored in prize cash, salaries and bonuses earned between June 1, 2017 and this past June 1.

United States boxer Floyd Mayweather came top of the list having reportedly earned $275m (£205m) for his boxing match against UFC star Conor McGregor last August alone.

This year, there were 40 Basketball (all NBA) athletes in the Top 100 as compared to 32 in last year's list.
