Three Californias? Measure to split state heads to November ballot

According to the secretary of state's site, the measure needed 365,880 signatures and had gathered 419,462 valid signatures by Tuesday.

Draper's plan would loop the Central Coast in with Los Angeles in one state simply called "California".

And in the far north region of California, some residents have pushed to form a new state with parts of southern OR, and wouldn't be keen on being lumped together with liberal San Francisco as envisioned by Draper's map.

Southern California would take in San Diego as well as San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, Mono, Madera, Inyo, Tulare, Fresno, Kings, Kern and Imperial counties.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ crosses $2 billion at the box office
Infinity War is expected to surpass Titanic in the next week, putting it directly behind Black Panther's $699,389,760 total. And that's not all -domestically, Infinity War is the fifth highest grossing film of all time with $656.1 million.

Venture capitalist Tim Draper said California's population, concentrated in urban and coastal areas, leaves other regions with diverse economies underrepresented in a letter when he submitted the initiative to the state last September.

A proposal to split California has qualified for the ballot in November. "The reality is that for an overmatched, overstretched and overwrought state-government structure, it is too big to succeed".

"This measure would cost taxpayers billions of dollars to pay for the massive transactional costs of breaking up the state, whether it be universities, parks, or retirement systems", Steven Maviglio, a political consultant who helped fight Draper's past proposals, said on Twitter.

Present day California is the world's fifth biggest economy with a GSP (gross state product) of $2.75 trillion, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, making it bigger than the United Kingdom economy.

Iran warns North Korea of the U.S
Damn, CNN ... are you that desperate for ratings? "I said, 'I have something to say from North Korea.' He just brushed me off". South Korea's Presidential Blue House said it needed "to find out the precise meaning or intentions" of Mr Trump's statement.

January 17: New California?

Any effort to break up the state would still have to receive Congressional approval. If the state's residents vote for the proposal, California's legislature would have a year, beginning in January of 2019, to implement it. It also would leapfrog statehood dreams in Puerto Rico and other USA territories.

An April poll from Survey USA found that voters were not in favor of splitting the state by a margin of 4 to 1.

If the measure is approved by voters, it would have to be ratified by Congress, which analysts say is unlikely.
