Anthony Martial's agent has confirmed that his client wishes to quit Manchester United.

Martial just about had the flawless debut as he scored in a 3-1 win over Liverpool on September 12, and he went on to net 17 times during a brilliant first season at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old endured a hard 2017/18 campaign, during which he found himself regularly consigned to peripheral role in Jose Mourinho's squad.

Philippe Lamboley, Martial's representative, issued a stinging rebuke of United by claiming they had not demonstrated they were serious about keeping the player after eight months of protracted negotiations came to nothing. Without the unconditional support of the fans, Anthony would have already asked to leave United.

"There are a lot reason, for the moment it is too early to talk about it. Anthony will speak later on to talk about that", he added.

Want this transfer to happen so bad Max, probably more than any other player I've seen linked to us so far. Everyone will have their opinion, I think he must resume the course of his career.

There are suggestions that United are reluctant to sell Martial to a domestic rival, but the prospect of landing Alderweireld and not having to part with any cash could tempt Old Trafford chiefs to alter that stance.
