Story Mode, Stranger Things game may be in development


Telltale is known for its narrative-drive games, many of which have been based on popular licensed franchises like Batman, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Walking Dead. It will not be an interactive story appearing on Netflix. It's an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service like Stretch Armstrong: "The Breakout, Puss in Book: "Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: "The Maybe Pile", the company told us in an email.

Netflix's take on streaming games apparently involves remaking them on some level so they can play nice with the service.

The company then confirmed that they are now developing a game based on Stranger Things - though wider details about the game are still scarce at the moment, with console compatibility and release dates yet to be confirmed. There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today.

A Netflix representative said a five-part Minecraft: Story Mode adaptation would be coming to its service in the fall. Stranger Things: The Game is available for free and is heavily influenced by retro games from the 80s like The Legend of Zelda.

It seems as though this has always been in the works, considering that Netflix itself launched a free-to-playStranger Things: The Game to promote Season 2 in October a year ago. "Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service".

Netflix responded, "We don't have any plans to get into gaming". This would include Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and even smart televisions with a built in Netflix app. Chromecast might be possible if the user could input commands from their device.

As TechRadar points out, Telltale has expressed interest in bringing its games to Netflix in the past, so this doesn't come completely out of left field.

This partnership has yet to be formally announced by either company, but sources say that the announcement "could happen any day".

HBO could grow to regret that decision, as Netflix having streaming video games could work to convert the people who somehow don't already subscribe to Netflix to start a subscription.
