Canada to legalize Marijuana on October 17

During Question Period Wednesday afternoon, Justin Trudeau confirmed that Canadians can expect a full roll-out of legalization October 17, 2018 - several months after the projected July 1 date, but far sooner than some Canadians expected.

The C-45 bill - also known as the Cannabis Act - passed the Senate in a 52 to 29 vote on Tuesday.

Trudeau's Liberal government introduced legislation a year ago in a bid to make Canada the second country in the world to legalise cannabis, after Uruguay.

The legislation will make Canada only the second country in the world to make pot legal. If Canada can effectively prevent youth use of marijuana while fully legalizing it, that may give more force to the arguments of supporters in the US that legal marijuana would be safer.

It is likely that by mid-September, Canadians will be able to buy cannabis and cannabis oil grown by licensed producers at various retail locations.

Not only will recreational use be legal, "Canadian will also be permitted to grow up to four plants in their homes under the Cannabis Act", Common Dreams reported.

If you plan to use cannabis once it is available for legal purchase, learn how to use it safely and know the health effects.

While Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor said she was thrilled the Senate approved the bill, saying: "We're on the cusp of a sensible, responsible and equitable cannabis policy".

Now that we have officially made it, and the biggest campaign promise from PM Justin Trudeau has been kept, we are waiting for an announcement from our PM to confirm exactly what we have already been told.

On Wednesday, he tweeted, "It's been too easy for our kids to get marijuana - and for criminals to reap the profits". This means despite legalized marijuana not yet being allowed, there are new restrictions on drug-impaired driving.

"And therefore we do not want to encourage in any way people to engage in that behaviour until the law is changed".

"C-45 marks a wholesale shift in how our country approaches cannabis", she said.

Trump directs Pentagon to create military Space Force
As the Pentagon noted in its response, this foray into the final frontier is going to take a long, long time to set up. Space Force is made possible by President Trump giving a direct command to the Pentagon.

However, stringent rules will still govern the purchase and use of marijuana.

The government says that, following extensive consultation with Canadians, provincial and territorial governments and Indigenous communities, the task force presented recommendations that have served as the foundation for the government's legislative work.

Provinces are expected to differ on whether or not they allow smoking in public.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau has estimated Can USD 400 million in fiscal revenue, with a goal to keep prices low in order to end the black market for the drug.

In the US, recreational marijuana is legal in 9 states and for medicinal purposes in 29 states.
