Katarina Zarutskie was vacationing on Staniel Cay, one of the islands in the tropical region, and chose to go swimming with nurse sharks-which are mostly harmless.

She told BBC News, "From my previous knowledge from surfing and scuba diving, I know nurse sharks are usually very safe", adding that she has "seen countless photos of people with them on Instagram".

Katarina Zarutskie was bitten by a shark in the Bahamas, in an attack that her boyfriend's father caught on camera. Except as she was floating on her back, surrounded by dozens of sharks, one of them chomped down on her arm near her wrist, and pulled her under. Zarutskie was able to break free and swim to the shore. She was bitten on the wrist, and in true model fashion, she took pictures of the wound. "They were just screaming at me not to do it", she said. She claims she did not plan to post the photos to Instagram in the first place-and her account has, at the time of writing, gone private.
