"If Earth partially blocks the sun, and the darkest part of its shadow falls across the moon's surface, it is called a partial eclipse". The partial eclipse begins at 7:24 pm CET (10:54 pm IST), with the total eclipse starting at 8:30 pm CET (12:00 am IST) and ending at 10:13 pm CET (1:43 am IST).

On the night of the total lunar eclipse, Mars and the moon will be roughly six degrees apart in the night sky. It will be Mars's closest approach to Earth in over a decade, so the planet will appear bigger in the sky.

Partial eclipse, where the moon will be partly covered, will last for 3 hours and 54 minutes.

In the United Kingdom: the partial eclipse will begin at 8.30pm BST on Friday, and the total eclipse will occur between 9.20pm and 10.12pm, with the moon visible to the south-east.
