McDonalds Launches MacCoin Cryptocurrency for Big Mac 50th Anniversary


(MCD) has unveiled MacCoin, a limited edition global currency, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Big Mac burger.

This step has been taken to commemorate 50th anniversary of the Big Mac. More than 6.2 million tokens will be distributed in the US and 50 other countries.

McDonald's wants to protect its storied menu item and promises it won't alter the burger, even as it introduces other big changes to its business.

"Our team of McDonald's security guards will be patrolling cities and towns from Whangarei to Invercargill handing out MacCoins for fans to either enjoy a free Big Mac on us, or simply collect and treasure for decades to come", says Jo. A few months back, Kodak announced that it's coming with its own cryptocurrency and McDonald's appeared to be similar especially because, they described MacCoin as the "first fully food-backed global currency".

Fans of Big Mac in Croatia will be able to get their MacCoins on 2 August by buying a Big Mac.

Then, from August 3 through the end of the year, diners can redeem each coin for one free Big Mac. Reportedly, McDonald's is giving out the tokens in 50 countries, at 14,000 restaurants starting from August 2.
