Android’s default Clock app can now wake you up with Spotify

Starting this week though, if you use Spotify and would like to use songs from the service as your alarm, then that may be reason enough for you to start using Google's Clock app.

In an update that is rolling out earlier this week, you'll be able to connect Spotify to the Clock app.

This new update for Google Clock app will be available globally this week and will be compatible on all devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and above. If you don't already have it on your phone, head over to Google Play to download it.

The best part? You don't even need a premium subscription for this to work.

Now when your alarm goes off you can hear the music you chose from Spotify instead of the built-in sounds. Users with the Google Clock app installed on their phones will be able to "browse recently played music, choose from Spotify's curated morning playlists, or search for a specific soundtrack" in the clock app.

If you are having a hard time finding the right song, Spotify has several preset playlist that you can choose from, such as I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, Have a Great Day! and Songs to Sing in the Shower. You should see a tab for Spotify when choosing an alarm tone on an individual alarm entry. Spotify does have more open APIs that specifically allow this kind of thing, which neither of Google's music services offer at this point.
