Tom Hanks is one of those Hollywood actors who never seems to have a bad reputation. His down-to-earth persona makes him loved by men and women alike. His movies have pulled in over $9 billion worldwide and you’d never guess this by the personality that he portrays. Hanks is just doing what he loves and continuing to please his audiences with every masterpiece that he stars in. He is one of those artists that gives his entire self to whatever role he is playing and he has displayed a humble attitude from the very beginning when he started his career in the early 80s. And maybe he is so humble because he had to work hard to get where he is today. It is evident that Hanks does it for the love of the art rather than the fame. His versatility on the big screen has led him to be cast in a variety of different genres and he is known for major motion pictures such as Big, Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, You’ve Got Mail and Toy Story, to name just a few. He is certainly one actor who has strayed away from being typecast and he has essentially played every type of major character, from starring in romantic comedies, action flicks, and even cartoons. His ability to transform himself so fluidly is impeccable.
Hanks isn’t just a star on the big screen though. He has proven to be a star to his wife, Rita Wilson for the 29 years of their marriage. And they are still going strong. Tom and Rita are one of those couples who aren’t phased by the tight grip that Hollywood has on marriage, and instead of ending in a strained marriage, theirs has been one that has gotten stronger over the years.
They are the envy of other Hollywood couples and have outlasted the majority of famous marriages amongst their peers. Both of them display attitudes and personalities that are down to earth and they thrive on supporting one another.
“I thought there was something crazy great about her,” said Hanks as he reflects on the first time he met his wife Rita. “I met her and thought, ‘Oh Lord, there’s something cookin’ here.’”
While the couple met in the 80s, their relationship is stronger today than ever before. “She makes me laugh harder now than she did in 1986,” said Hanks.
One of the things that brought the couple even closer together, was Rita’s battle with breast cancer in 2015. “You never know how your spouse is going to act in a situation like this,” said Rita. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me.”
The couple has two children together and are committed to only getting better together with time. As they celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary, they will be looking forward to another 29 years of marriage, and we are pretty sure they won’t disappoint. They are an inspiration to both those who are in the spotlight and those who aren’t and because of their humble personas, everyone is rooting for them.
